Stuck in a makeup rut? Switch up your makeup routine!

Are you the friend who has been using the same foundation for the past ten years? Won't move away from your favourite powder & stuck in a rut when it comes to the same lipliner & lipstick combo? Velvet teddy wearers, we are looking at you...

Well, the New Year might be a good time to switch up your makeup routine & indulge in a few new makeup bag staples, but don’t disregard the ones you already have.

The best way to start a makeup bag cleanse is by getting all your products out and laying them in front of you, what do you use every day & what hasn’t seen the light of day since your last revamp?

Make it your mission to try out one of those un-used products once a week or once a month. Go bold with a bright lipstick whilst you nip to the shops, wear a winged liner for a meeting at work, maybe just leave the coloured mascara in the draw, that’s for Halloween/fancy dress parties only!

Use & view your current products in a new way, if you have a cream blush try this out on the eyes and lips, a bronzer can become an eyeshadow & a lipstick can become a blusher. Don’t be scared to get creative with your makeup bag.

The next step is to get rid of anything that looks like it may be past the use-by date, or anything that is near its end. If you're having to tip the glass bottle upside down and scrape the remains of the foundation out, it's time for a new one.

Remember brands such as; MAC do returns for lipstick, so keep your empties and once you have five or six take them along to MAC to receive a new lipstick.

If you're looking to try something new and don’t know where to start, have a browse around the makeup counters and ask for testers. Testers are a great way to try before you buy, don’t feel cheeky in asking, counters have minis of all products for you to try. If not ask the counter staff to apply some of the product and wear it around the shop for an hour to see if you like the finish.

Finally, clean your old makeup bag, makeup brushes & products, give them a new lease of life by giving them a good clean. Your own brushes should be washed every week with fairy liquid and warm water, you will see a huge difference in your makeup application if you have clean brushes. You may even need some new brushes? We suggest starting with your essentials, the Cassie Lomas Range Flawless Face Set is a great starter set as it has every brush you need for creating the perfect complexion. Or, if you're in need of some new brushes for your eye makeup then we suggest the Eye Blender Set, it's got brushes of all different shapes and sizes, allowing you to create any eye look possible!

Set aside an afternoon to dedicate time to you and your makeup bag, who knows what you might discover.
